Which fabrics for the child vest?

The Roquefort vest is made with two fabrics: a main fabric for the outside and a lighter one for the lining.

For the outer fabric

To get the soft, warm look of a traditional shepherd's vest, you can use:

• faux fur
• teddy minky

These materials give a comfortable, cosy vest that is particularly suited to autumn and winter.

For the lining

For the inside of the vest, choose a lighter fabric such as:

• batiste
• poplin

You can pick a plain lining, or use the inside of the vest to add colour and pattern.

How much fabric do you need?

For the largest size, allow:

• Outer fabric: 70 cm (3/4 yd) in 150 cm (59 in) width
• Lining: 70 cm (3/4 yd) in 150 cm (59 in) width

The full requirements are also given in the ebook included with the pattern.

A video tutorial to guide you step by step

Alongside the ebook, you can follow the Roquefort child vest video tutorial.

I walk you through every stage of the sewing. You can go at your own pace, pause the video and watch a step again as often as you need.

The video is in French. YouTube can display translated subtitles, and automatic dubbing is available on many videos: use the gear icon in the player.

Sewing time: about 1 h 30
Difficulty: 1.5 / 3, accessible

What you receive

After your order you receive the Roquefort child vest PDF pattern, in four formats, plus the instruction ebook:

  • French: pattern sheets in A4 and A0, ebook in French
  • English: pattern sheets in US Letter (11 pages, tiled) and in 24 x 36 in (2 pages, one piece per page), ebook in English

The pattern sheets carry a separate layer for each of the 14 sizes: turn on only your size in your PDF reader before printing and you get a single clean cutting line. A 5 cm and a 1 inch test square on every sheet let you check the print scale before cutting.

⚠️ This listing is for the CHILD vest pattern only, from 6 months to 14 years. The adult pattern is not included in this purchase.

Also available for adults

The same shepherd's vest exists in an adult version, from XS to 3XL.

And if you want to sew for the whole family, the Roquefort Vest Duo brings both patterns together at a better price.
