A fabric basket is only as good as its interfacing. Without it the sides collapse the moment you put something in. Every pattern below states the interfacing it needs, and all of them are sewable in an afternoon.

Which interfacing for a fabric basket?

For a basket that sits on a shelf, a medium fusible interfacing (around 250 g/m², Vlieseline H250 type) is the usual choice: firm enough to stand, still soft enough to sew. For a hanging basket that carries weight, interface both the outer fabric and the lining. If your basket feels floppy after turning it right side out, the interfacing was too light, not the fabric.

Can I wash a fabric basket?

Yes, if you pre-wash your fabric and use a fusible interfacing rated for washing. Wash cold and reshape while damp, otherwise the corners lose their shape.

How much fabric does a basket need?

Most of these patterns use two squares of 23 to 35 cm per side, which means less than half a metre. They are a genuinely good way to use up what is left after a garment.
